The area of the Gravy Train showing is underlain by the contact of undivided volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group, on the southeast, with a Middle to Late Triassic quartz diorite batholith on northwest.
In 2017, a sampled quartz diorite outcrop measured 30 metres by 20 metres and contained chalcopyrite, with malachite and azurite staining. A chip sample across 15 centimetres of slickenside was taken. Lots of carbonate was observed. Mineralization reported to be associated with rhyolite/diorite dike with abundant epidote. The sample assayed 0.24 gram per tonne gold, 0.9 gram per tonne silver and 0.33 per cent copper (W385571, Assessment Report 37141).
About 500 metres northwest of sample W385571, sample W385518 was collected. This sample consisted of very rusty angular talus located just below rock a face 40 centimetres long and 20 centimetres wide. The sample contained 15 per cent sulphides including chalcopyrite and malachite staining. Rock was described as a rusty quartz-rich granite or quartz diorite. The sample graded 0.142 gram per tonne gold, 0.7 gram per tonne silver, 0.57 per cent copper (W385518, Assessment Report 37141).
In 2011 and 2012 Teck Resources Limited conducted a number of programs and surveys on its Eagle property which covered 61240.65 hectares and which was roughly bounded by Barrington River on the south, Hackett River (southern 104J) on the North, Sheslay River on the west and Tahltan Lake, Tahltan River and Lovell Creek on the East (Assessment Reports 33330, 34266). A total of 94 stream sediment samples, 208 rock samples and 2 U/Pb geochronology samples were collected in 2011; and 14 rock samples were collected in 2012. An airborne ZTEM survey conducted by Geotech Ltd. totalled 1800 kilometers in 2011 and 2906 kilometres in 2012 for a total of 4706 kilometres. A further airborne magnetic survey in 2011 totalled 1266 kilometres. Teck was focused on mapping and the collection of rock samples in order to determine lithologic types. A total of 12800 hectares was mapped, mostly in the area extending 16 kilometres south from of Stone Lake and Hackett River. Teck identified several areas of weak chalcopyrite mineralization including new MINFILE occurrences in map sheet 104J: Harper Reed, Gabb1, Gabb2, Hackett River SW and Stone Lake Molly. New MINFILE numbers pending.
In 2017 J2 Syndicate Holdings carried out 1-day exploration program on the Goldwedge Property. The program consisted of reconnaissance and follow-up prospecting, mapping and rock sampling program. Twenty-two (22) samples were taken: 16 rock samples and 6 silt samples. One geologist and two prospectors traversed the property taking samples, geological observations and photographs. Only a few samples of weak gold, silver and copper were forthcoming which are the basis of the Gravy Train showing.
